“Bear Wants More” Three-Part Cards

My son loves the picture book Bear Wants More by Wilson Karma and all the books in the series. We have borrowed them from the library again and again. So, I made him these Montessori-inspired three-part cards to help him read the names of the animals.

Here’s what they look like:

How do you use them? Almost just the way we use the See and Learn Cards.

Print pictures on card stock and laminate.

The control cards are the cards on the left of each page. The word is connected to the picture.

The matching cards are the cards on the right of each page. Cut along the dotted line to separate the word from the picture.

Now you are ready to use the cards:

  1. NAME – Teach your child the name of each picture, Help him/her find the matching picture from the matching cards.
  2. MATCH – Teach your child how to match the each word card to its matching control cards
  3. SELECT – Pull away the control cards, leaving behind only the word cards. Ask your child to select word cards you call out.
  4. READ – Put out only the picture cards (without words). Help your child read and put the corresponding word card under each picture.

The great thing about three-part cards is that children can match the picture cards and the word cards them on their own using the control cards as a guide.

Once your child can read these words by sight, encourage him/her to read them in all of the Bear Books by Karma Wilson.
