Simply Addition Level 1 Flash Cards and Worksheets

Using addition flash cards are a quick and easy way to help our kids practice the addition facts. For children with Down Syndrome and other visual learners, including a visual aid on the flash cards makes addition more concrete. I searched high and low for rekenrek addition flash cards with large numbers and finally ended up making them myself.

Both the flash cards and the worksheets have pictures of rekenreks. These allow students to identify the greater number and count on to solve each fact.

The flash cards have the answers on the back.

Writing out sums helps children to memorize them. That’s where these worksheets come in handy. Ideally, your student should be subsitizing the numbers (identifying the quantity as a whole), and not counting each bead. Once students name the addends and write them in, they can identify the greater number and count on to solve each equation.

By the way, many children with Down Syndrome CAN learn to subsitize, and this helps them develop number sense. See the FREE Simply Addition, Level 1 to learn how to teach your child to subsitize on the rekenrek.

These flashcards and worksheets are a great supplement to the FREE Simply Addition, Level 1 workbook designed for children with special needs.

The flashcards and worksheets are available at TeachersPayTeachers.
