The Articles of the Mass: Three-part Cards

This year, the boys in our little T21 co-op are preparing to receive First Confession and First Communion. We are so grateful that a trained catechist has been coming to run a little Catechesis of the Good Shepherd class just for them.

They have been learning the names of some of the articles of the Mass, and so I made these Montessori-style three-part cards to teach them words such as monstrance, chalice, paten, and purificator.

Here’s a sample:

There are eighteen items in this set: altar, altar bells, altar candle, boat, chalice, ciborium, communion plate, crucifix, cruets, host, monstrance, purificator, paten, stole, rosary, sanctuary lamp, tabernacle, and thurible.

The wonderful illustrations are by TpT artist Christine O’Brien.

Here’s how we use them:

  1. Help your child match item to item. (Start with only 3-4 cards at a time.)
  2. Help your child match word to word.
  3. Name an item and ask your child to point to it.
  4. Using word cards only, name a word and ask your child point to it.
  5. Help your child match word to item.

Then, when you go to church, help your child find all the articles!

These are available at TpT: The Articles of the Mass Three-part Cards
